10 of 31: Avocados

I started these little guys from the seeds of avocados that I sometimes eat for lunch. I’ve never had a great ability to get them to grow, but turns out that the best way is to scrape the bottom of the seed with your fingernail until the brown is gone. This helps the root break through. The seed splits apart with roots growing out the bottom, and the tree from the top!

  1. Hi!

I tried for a WHILE to get my Avo seeds to sprout. Then we moved to a house that has spring water instead of city water and the first one I tried here worked! I’m convinced that had something to do with it :) . They take SO LONG to “pop”! It’s a real lesson in patience!

    Great blog :)
